Ancestors

The album Ancestors was conceived after hearing Russian archive recordings of tribal people of the Siberian Arctic. On this recording the the icy northern landscape is celebrated by weaving archive material in with original compositions.

The traditional arctic drum, with reindeer skin and bells and metal shards weaves a unique magic when combined with Nigel Shaw's conetmporary instruments (flutes, bagpipes, whistles, didgeridu, guitar etc).

Carolyn Hillyer adds further lyrics and chants.
