Menacuddle Holy Well

Menacuddle Holy Well

Menacuddle holy well stands below the A3058 road near St Austell in Cornwall, England.

When the towering rhododendron trees are in flower during the Spring it is especially enchanting here, as the river - rich with clay from the nearby clay workings - gushes over the weir beside the ancient baptistry which is built into the rock-face below the road.

Menacuddle is situated on the St Michael alignment as described by Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst in The Sun and the Serpent.

Cornwall is rich in ancient holy wells such as this. Others are to be found at St Keyne, St Cuby, St Clether, St Cubert and Madron
