Lourdes  Lourdes in SW France is one of the most important shrines of Catholic pilgrimage in Europe. A tall pricket in the grotto is always ablaze with many candles. Beside the grotto the water from the source is collected by pilgrims. The town welcomes thousands of pilgrims each year, many arriving in special ambulance coaches from far-off destinations.
