The Ridgeway (National Trail Guides)

Neil Curtis

Although the Ridgeway is so well signposted this is invaluable for planning your walk.

Here is a comprehensive guide, including Ordnance Survey maps, for this ancient track which is 85-miles long. The route is clearly marked and described, and the text includes historical and geographical notes.

The western section between Overton and Goring is generally easy hill-top walking on broad paths.
The section eastwards from the Vale of the White Horse offers particularly spectacular views as you follow the ridges.
The eastern section, between Wallingford and Ivinghoe is more varied, meandering through the Chiltern hills - and so a little more strenuous.

The Ridgeway is ideal for walkers of all degrees of fitness - reckon to cover around 10 miles in a day.
If you can plan to walk from west to east you will appreciate having the prevailing wind behind you!
