Many of the original Vierges Noires were destroyed in times of trouble and later replaced.
Others have been "restored" to the natural colour of the material from which they are carved... Sophie Cassagnes-Brouquet enables us to recognise and to seek out those sites which were formerly dedicated to the Great Mother Earth Goddess.
